McWright was on an electric scooter crossing the road in a crosswalk when he was struck by a school bus. Reports say that the bus had a green light, but authorities are still investigating the crash.

The collision occurred just two blocks from the San Jose State campus where California Highway Patrol officers are now investigating the accident.

Officer Mike Lee of the CHP says the school bus was carrying 14 students and entered the intersection with a green light. Camdan McWright was crossing the road in a crosswalk with his electric scooter. The bus collided with McWright and was pronounced dead on the scene.

McWright was a running back for San Jose State and was originally from Panorama City. His friends and coaches had nothing but kind things to say regarding his talents as a football player, and the good friend that he was to many.

We at Accident News Now offer our deepest condolences to Camdan’s friends and family and all those who were positively affected by his talents and generosity.

Liability In San Jose Pedestrian Accidents

Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in pedestrian accidents. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “An estimated 137,000 pedestrians were treated in emergency departments for nonfatal crash-related injuries in 2017. Per trip, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger vehicle occupants to be killed in a car crash.” There are a number of factors that could lead to a pedestrian collision including:

  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Driver distraction
  • Inclement weather

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. The family of any victim that died in a pedestrian collision may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
