Officers directed traffic away from the scene as first responders aided the woman and the dog, who had both sustained serious injuries in the accident.

The woman was rushed to a local trauma center with critical injuries. The dog was taken to a veterinarian hospital by a patrol vehicle to receive treatment, reports indicated.
