LAGUNA BEACH, CA (August 16, 2022) – Stanley Isaacs was walking in a Laguna Beach crosswalk with his wife when he was struck and killed by Sysillia Morrison Montes De Oca, a hit-and-run driver according to NBC News.
The collision occurred on Thursday at around 9:38 p.m. on South Coast Highway and Pearl Street.
Witnesses say that Isaacs pushed his wife out of the way before being hit by the oncoming vehicle in what was described as a clearly marked crosswalk.
Another witness told NBC, “The husband, as I guess many would do, pushed her out of the way. She had minor injuries from what I understand and he was thrown quite a distance.”
His wife was identified as Cathy Isaacs and was treated and released from the hospital for minor injuries.
The husband and wife, both of Costa Mesa, were crossing a marked, lit crosswalk after having dinner to celebrate their wedding anniversary when the crash occurred.
They were hit by a silver 2009 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Sysillia Morrison Montes De Oca.
Stanley Isaacs unfortunately succumbed to his injuries in the hospital later.
Sysillia Morrison Montes De Oca was booked for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and felony hit and run and held on $100,000 bail, which has been posted, allowing Morrison Montes De Oca to be released.
Laguna Beach detectives were able to track the Volkswagen being concealed in a garage in Aliso Viejo based on evidence. The vehicle has since been impounded for evidence.
