Truck Strikes And Kills Pedestrian In San Marcos Intersection

One seriously injured in two-vehicle crash in Orland.

San Marcos, CA (January 18, 2024) A 56-year-old pedestrian lost their life while crossing the street in San Marcos on Thursday, January 18th. Authorities reported that the fatal accident took place at the intersection of East Mission Road and Mulberry Drive just after 4:30 a.m.

San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Agustin Rosas reported that a silver Dodge Ram pickup truck was driving through the intersection as the pedestrian crossed the street. The Dodge pickup, driven by a 61-year-old man, was traveling east on East Mission Road as the pedestrian was within the west crosswalk. The pickup struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk, knocking him to the ground.

As soon as the collision occurred, the driver of the Dodge pickup stopped and called 911. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene along with the San Marcos Fire Department Paramedics and found the pedestrian motionless, on the road. First responders did everything they could to save the pedestrian’s life but he died at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge cooperated with authorities following this fatal collision. The accident is being investigated by the San Marcos Traffic Unit which is determined to learn exactly what happened at this San Marcos intersection.
