Oceanside, CA (April 25, 2024) Sadness gripped the community of Oceanside following a pedestrian death on Mission Avenue. William Alfred Way, 60, was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking on the night of April 15th. The accident happened right around 9:00 p.m., west of Ocean Puente, according to reports.
The sun had set over Oceanside as Way decided to cross Mission Avenue. A gold Nissan Murano was heading West on Mission Avenue and struck Way as he crossed the street, reports indicated. Officers said the accident occurred approximately 100 yards west of Ocean Puente. The force from the collision threw Way into the air and he landed several feet from the vehicle, on the road.
The Oceanside Police Department sped to the scene, sirens blaring and emergency lights flashing. They arrived and found the driver of the Nissan, waiting at the scene. Way was lying on the ground in the middle of the road, motionless. Paramedics hurried to his side, prepared to give life-saving measures, but there was nothing they could do. Unfortunately, Way had been killed in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers called the San Diego Medical Examiner to the scene and covered Way’s body with a tarp.
Officers closed the road for several hours following the collision so investigators could interview the driver of the Nissan and gather evidence. They are determined to discover exactly what took place on this Oceanside road and who was responsible for this fatal accident.
