Jefferson Park, Los Angeles, CA (March 28, 2024) A devastating scene unfolded in the Jefferson Park area of Los Angeles today. A pregnant woman, identified as 18-year-old Luzelena Soria-Rosales, was killed in a collision by a driver who tried to flee the scene. 26-year-old Oscar Santos Farela was also killed in this collision, according to reports. The tragic accident took place at the intersection of Arlington Avenue and West 29th Street.
It was right around noon on Thursday, March 28th, when a black BMW ran a red light while heading south through the intersection. The vehicle then collided with a UPS truck in the 2800 block of Arlington Avenue. The force of the impact sent the UPS truck barreling into several other vehicles. Officers at the scene reported that the BMW was traveling at speeds 100 miles per hour at the time of the accident.The BMW went airborne and collided with several parked cars, at which time, a female passenger was thrown from the vehicle.
Reports indicated that the BMW was ripped to shreds during the accident and its roof had been completely torn off the vehicle. The UPS truck was found partially in a yard and driveway of a home in the neighborhood.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found two people, Soria-Rosales and Farela, who were passengers, with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department rushed to help them, but sadly, they were both pronounced dead at the scene. A videographer in the area shared some devastating news to officials following the accident. They reported that Luzelena Soria-Rosales was pregnant at the time of her death.
Officers reported that someone stepped out of the BMW and tried to flee on foot. Good Samaritans in the area noticed this and followed them as they called 911. They found the driver in the area and arrested them. Drug paraphernalia was found in the males car and officers believe he may have been under the influence of something at the time of the accident.
