NIPOMO, CA (September 12, 2022) – A woman was killed in Nipomo on Highway 101 after being struck by a Toyota Prius on Saturday.
For unknown reasons, the woman was trying to cross the highway just before 7 p.m. near Tefft Street. As she tried to cross, a 21-year-old driving the Toyota northbound on Highway 101 attempted to avoid a vehicle in front of him that swerved to the right by going left.
At that point, the Prius driver saw the pedestrian on the road headed toward the median but it was too late to avoid hitting her.
The California Highway Patrol says the Toyota was traveling at around 70 mph when it collided with the woman on the road.
The names of the driver or the slain woman have not yet been released.
