Apple Valley, CA (May 6, 2024) Two people were injured in Apple Valley when a vehicle ran a stop sign and hit a Walmart truck on Thursday, May 2nd. The semi-truck then hit another vehicle before overturning, reports indicated. The collision took place on Dale Evans Parkway, at the intersection of Quarry Road, just before 7:00 p.m.
Officers with the Apple Valley Police Department reported that a 33-year-old Victorville resident was driving a Toyota and ran a stop sign at the intersection of Dale Evans Parkway and Quarry Road. A Walmart semi-truck, driven by a 48-year-old man from Apple Valley, was heading down Dale Evans Parkway when the two vehicles collided at the intersection. The force from the collision caused the driver of the Walmart truck to lose control. It slammed into a parked Nissan before hitting an electrical pole and falling onto its side.
The Apple Valley’s Sheriff’s Station arrived at the scene and found the Nisan on the side of the road with its back end completely smashed. The owner of the vehicle, Scott Hood, had ran out of gas and left the vehicle on the side of the road as he went to get gas. He told officials that he was thankful he wasn’t in the vehicle at the time of the collision. The Toyota sustained major front-end damage and the Walmart truck laid on its side in the middle of the roadway.
Paramedics found the driver of the Walmart truck suffering from high blood pressure and rushed him to a local hospital to receive treatment. The driver of the Toyota was found with moderate injuries following the accident and paramedics requested an air ambulance. The driver was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center to receive treatment for their injuries.
Officers said the accident also caused damage to several electrical poles, which sent Southern California Edison to the scene to repair them. Walmart representatives were also working to salvage the cargo inside the overturned semi-trucks, officers reported.
Orange cones and yellow police tape closed off a portion of the roadway as officers investigated the scene and crews worked to clean debris and glass from the area. A tow truck was called to remove vehicles from the scene as well.
