Fresno County, CA (May 15, 2024) A tragic accident sent a wave of sadness through the community of Fresno County on Thursday, May 9th. 21-year-old Cedric Gonzalez, a Fresno resident, was killed when his vehicle collided with a semi-truck carrying a load of grapefruit. The sad incident happened on Highway 41 in the evening hours of the day, according to police reports.
21-year-old Cedric Gonzalez was north on Highway 41 in a Nissan. A semi-truck hauling grapefruit was coming from South Avenue and merged onto northbound Highway 41, right in the path of Gonzalez. The semi-truck ended up blocking the lane as it slowly tried to pick up speed on the highway. Gonzalez had no time to react and ended up slamming into the back of the semi-truck trailer. The Nissan became stuck under the trailer, reports indicated. The truck driver, realizing something had happened, pulled over with Gonzalez’s Nissan still pinned under its trailer.

Emergency personnel rushed to the scene on Highway 41 with sirens wailing and lights flashing. They could see the semi-truck as they approached the scene. Once there, they found the Nissan completely wedged under the trailer. The Nissan was completely smashed and destroyed as paramedics rushed to the vehicle. It was a situation in which they hoped for the best but feared the worst because of the severity of damage to the vehicle. They found Gonzalez in the driver’s seat of the Nissan, unresponsive. Paramedics sadly realized that there was nothing they could do, and pronounced 21-year-old Cedric Gonzalez dead at the scene.
The wreckage that was once the Nissan had to be removed from under the semi-truck trailer and hauled away. Officers questioned the driver of the semi-truck, as well as witnesses at the scene. They are working to determine what exactly transpired on northbound Highway 41 that evening.
