Malia Hoenshell, Zaiden Grandon, Phoenix Henley Killed In Las Vegas Collision

A 13-year-old boy was killed by DUI driver in Escondido.

Las Vegas, NV (April 1, 2024) A community mourned the loss of a mother and her two children on March 20th in Las Vegas. 29-year-old Malia Hoenshell, a Henderson resident, and her two children, 9-year-old Zaiden Grandon and 3-year-old Phoenix Henley, were killed in a car accident with a semi-truck on US-93 in Clark County. The deadly accident occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m., not too far from Apex, officers said.

IT was the middle of the night as Hoenshell drove north along US-93 in the dark. Her two young sons were in the vehicle with her when she suddenly drifted into oncoming traffic. A semi-truck was heading south and had no time to react. The two vehicles crashed into each other, head-on. The Nevada State Police reported that the accident happened near mile marker 59 on the highway.

Emergency personnel hurried to the scene where they found the semi-truck and a severely damaged passenger vehicle on the highway. Paramedics rushed to the car and found the woman and her two sons unresponsive. All three had sustained blunt force trauma in the collision and were pronounced dead at the scene. Officers spoke with the semi-truck driver as they waited for the coroner to arrive at the scene.

Officers investigated the scene and hope to determine what caused this fatal collision. The victims’ family is devastated and have set up two separate GoFundMe accounts, one by Kimberly Terry-Campbell and another by Elizabeth Rackley, to help with the funeral expenses.

Hoenshell’s vehicle was completely destroyed in the collision and had to be hauled from the scene by a tow truck. Crews worked diligently to clear the highway of glass and debris. Sadness for the loss of this family hung in the air as crews did their jobs that morning.
