The California Highway Patrol’s Woodland office reported that the big rig was driving east on County Road 27, approaching County Road 94, when it drifted to the right. A spokesperson for the CHP Woodland office, Officer Rodney Fitzhugh, said the driver then over-corrected and swerved to the left. That’s when the big rig collided with the pickup.

The pickup had been traveling west on County Road 27 when the big rig hit it, head-on, Fitzhugh said. The pickup driver was killed in the impact and pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. It is unknown if the driver of the big rig sustained any injuries in this fatal head-on collision.

Authorities have reported that this investigation is ongoing. They want to determine exactly what happened to cause the big rig driver to lose control of his vehicle on County Road 27.
