VACAVILLE, CA (August 31, 2022) – A tomato truck accident caused the spillage of over 150,000 tomatoes onto Interstate 80 in Vacaville according to ABC News.
The accident occurred Monday just after 5 a.m. when the truck carrying the tomatoes collided with another vehicle, causing injuries as serious as broken bones according to the report.
California Highway Patrol officers closed all eastbound lanes as cleanup efforts went underway. Officials described the scene as being as “slick as ice,” with tomato peels being very slippery when dispersed as thickly as they were. Four car attempting to drive through the mess skidded across the road and crashed into each other.
Lanes were reopened around 11:30 a.m. with one lane on the westbound side closed until about 1 p.m.
Three people were hospitalized as a result of this tomato truck accident.
