Jet Ski Crash Kills 1, Injures Another In Shasta County

1 killed, 1 injured in jet ski crash in Shasta County.

Shasta County, CA (September 9, 2024) A chaotic collision occurred on Shasta Lake in Shannon Cover on Saturday September 7, 2024. Two men, ages 18 and 19, were on a jet ski near Sacramento Point, when they were struck by another jet ski on the lake. The collision claimed the life of the 18-year-old man, officers said.

The two teenagers were on a jet ski on Saturday when another jet ski, operated by a 21-year-old man, approached them. For reasons that remain unknown the other jet ski headed right for them and the two water vehicles collided.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived at the scene and found the damaged jet ski. Reports indicated that the two teenagers were found with injuries. The 19-year-old had an injury to his knee and the 18-year-old had sustained injuries to his face, head and chin. The two injured men were taken to Bridge Bay Marina where they were met by medical crews who rushed the two to a hospital in the area. Sadly, the 18-year-old later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The accident is being investigated by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Officer Boating Safety Unity, officers reported. They are hoping to determine not only what caused this fatal jet ski crash, but who was responsible.
