The fatal collision occurred on the train tracks near G Street and Mono Street, according to Lt. Leslie Williams with the Fresno Police Department. He said two trains were heading down the tracks in opposite directions, both speeding towards the bicyclist. The bicyclist tried to cross both sets of tracks before the trains approached, but sadly, he wasn’t fast enough to beat the speeding trains. He was hit first by a cargo train heading north, and went down on the tracks, where he was then struck by the second train, heading south.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene only to find the bicyclist down on the tracks, unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Officers reported that the investigation into this tragic collision is ongoing.
