Redding, CA (November 26, 2023) One person lost their life following a DUI crash in Redding on Saturday night, November 25th, according to the Redding Police Department. Daveiontay Norwood, 31, was arrested for suspicion of DUI following the collision. It all happened around 3:15 p.m. on Hartnell Avenue.
Emergency crews arrived at the 1000 block of Harnell Avenue and found two Chevrolet Silverado Pickup trucks that had been involved in a collision. Upon arrival, officers located one of the drivers who was trapped inside their vehicle. Officers said the driver was unresponsive and they carefully extricated him from the 1999 Chevy Silverado he had been driving. Paramedics rushed him to Mercy Medical Center, but he was later pronounced dead. The victim’s identity is being withheld until their next of kin has been notified.

The other driver, in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, was 31-year-old Daveiontay Norwood. Police officers said that Norwood displayed signs of being under the influence. Upon further evaluation, officers discovered that his blood alcohol level was greater than 0.08%. Officers also believed that Norwood was under the influence of some type of narcotic as well. He was arrested at the scene and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of driving with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.08% causing bodily injury, driving with a suspended license, for possession of controlled substance and for DUI and probation violation.
Following further investigation, authorities determined that Norwood had been speeding when he crashed into the other pickup on Hartnell Avenue. Officers stated that both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of this fatal collision.
Norwood had a passenger in his pickup who fled on foot following the collision.
