Carpinteria, CA (January 11, 2024) 80-year-old Steven Kingsley Close, a Carpinteria resident, was killed while riding his bike on Tuesday, January 9th. The California Highway Patrol reported that the fatal accident occurred around 8:45 a.m. on State Route 150 (or Rincon Road), not far from Via Real.
Initial reports indicate that Close was riding his bicycle in the 6600 block of Rincon Road when he was struck by a vehicle near the entrance to Highway 101. The collision left Close with life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

Police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and found 80-year-old Close lying in the roadway, his bicycle damaged. Shortly after emergency crews arrived, Close passed away. He was, sadly, pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Officers are investigating this fatal bicycle accident in an attempt to figure out what actually happened on State Route 150 in Carpinteria.
