Bakersfield, CA ( January 30, 2024) It was a cool, January morning as Megan Lee Sanders walked along an old highway. She never imagined that such a stress-free activity could turn deadly. It was just after 6:00 a.m. when the 42-year-old pedestrian was struck by a passing vehicle in Bakersfield. Sadly, she didn’t survive.
Sanders was heading down Rosedale Highway (also called Old Highway 58) and as she neared Rudd Avenue, a vehicle approached her from the east, officers said. Without warning, the vehicle struck Sanders as she walked. The driver realized they had hit something and slammed on the brakes, causing the vehicle to slide on the roadway. It came to a stop in the westbound lanes of Rosedale Highway, between Heath Road and Renfro Road, facing the wrong direction.
Within minutes, the Bakersfield Fire Department was at the scene. They found Sanders lying in the roadway and rushed to give her medical attention. Unfortunately, they found that it was too late and Sanders had been killed in the collision. With heavy hearts, they pronounced her dead at the scene.
