Apple Valley, CA (March 31, 2024) A devastating collision in the middle of the night claimed a man’s life and left a woman seriously injured in Apple Valley. It happened on Wednesday, March 27th just after midnight, according to Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies. It all happened on Central Road when a vehicle lost control and drifted into oncoming traffic.
Initial reports indicated that a white and green Ford Ranger was on Central Road, heading south, near Pahute Avenue. A silver Dodge Durango was driving on the same road, but heading north, at approximately 12:13 a.m. The Ford Ranger veered off the road, causing the driver to over-correct. They swerved back onto the road and lost control, causing them to swerve into oncoming traffic. Without any warning, the Ford slammed into the Dodge, head on.
The Apple Valley Sheriff’s Department hurried to the scene and found the two vehicles with major front-end damage. The Ford’s cab was smashed and debris and glass littered the roadway. The driver of the Dodge, a 47-year-old woman from Phelan, with serious injuries. Paramedics called for an air ambulance and she was airlifted to a local trauma center to receive treatment. Officers said she has been listed in stable condition.
The driver of the Ford, a man from San Bernardino, received life-threatening injuries in the accident. He was rushed to a local hospital where the medical team did everything they could, but sadly, he was pronounced dead.
Central Road was closed for three hours from Pahute Avenue to Little Beaver Road as investigators gathered evidence. At this time, they do not know if drugs or alcohol played a role in this fatal accident. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is leading this investigation.
Tow trucks had to be called to remove the two severely damaged vehicles from the roadway and crews worked to clean the scene of glass and debris.
