Placentia, CA (June 5, 2024) Tragedy struck the community of Placentia on Tuesday morning, June 4th, when a two-vehicle collision claimed a teenage boy’s life. The victim, Zach Henn, was a junior at El Dorado High School. Officers believe he was on his way to school at the time of the collision. It all happened shortly after 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of Valencia Avenue and Yorba Linda Boulevard.
It was Tuesday morning in Placentia, and Henn was driving with a juvenile passenger. Suddenly, for reasons still under investigation, the teen’s car collided with another car at the intersection of Valencia Avenue and Yorba Linda Boulevard. The other vehicle was driven by a 39-year-old woman, and officers said she had a boy and girl with her at the time of the accident.
Sgt. Joe Connell with the Placentia Police Department reported that Henn was found trapped inside his vehicle. The passenger was able to get out of the vehicle on his own, officers said. Firefighters had to use specialized hydraulic tools to free the teenage driver from the wrecked vehicle. Paramedics loaded him into an ambulance and rushed him to a local hospital to receive emergency treatment for life-threatening injuries, but sadly, he succumbed to those injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to reports.
The four other people involved in the collision were all taken to local hospitals to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Police officers spoke with witnesses and gathered as much information at the scene as they could find in an effort to figure out what caused this deadly collision. Two trucks had to be called to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway and crews worked as quickly as they could to remove the glass and debris from the roadway.
Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District officials have provided additional support staff for the students during this difficult time. The entire community is mourning the loss of this teenage boy following this tragic two-vehicle collision.
