Ojai, CA (July 31, 2024) The community of Ojai was saddened to hear of a pedestrian’s death on Wednesday morning, July 31st, 2024. The pedestrian was struck and killed by a white van while on Ventura Avenue right around 7:00 a.m. Reports indicated that the fatal accident happened across the street from a Rite Aid parking lot.
Early on Wednesday morning, on the final day of July, a pedestrian walked along Ventura Avenue. As they approached 11496 N. Ventura Avenue, a white van approached them. Suddenly, the van struck the pedestrian at approximately 7:02 a.m., directly across the street from Rite Aid. The force from the impact threw the victim into the air before they landed on the ground, several feet from the van. The driver of the van immediately stopped and the 911 calls began rolling in, according to reports.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian on the ground. The victim wasn’t moving and officers found them unresponsive. They began CPR on the victim as they waited for paramedics with the Ventura County Fire Department to arrive at the scene. Sadly, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, officers reported.
Investigators worked the scene and are working to uncover what caused this fatal pedestrian accident in Ojai. Following the investigation, the white van was towed away as evidence, reports indicated. Detectives on the case are working diligently to determine who was responsible for this deadly accident on Wednesday morning.
