Colorado Springs, CO (December 13, 2023) A bicyclist, 28-year-old Eduardo Ibanez-Charco, lost his life in a hit-and-run crash in Colorado Springs. The Colorado Springs Police Department arrested Breanna Smith, 28, following a lengthy investigation. The hit-and-run happened around 10:45 p.m. in the area of Hancock Expressway and Astrozon Boulevard, authorities said.
Ibanez-Charco was riding his bike south in the northbound bike lane when he was hit by a vehicle. Instead of stopping, the driver of the vehicle hit the gas and fled the scene, leaving Eduardo Ibanez-Charco lying in the road.

Officers arrived at the scene and, sadly, found Ibanez-Charco already dead. They searched the area for evidence and began investigating the accident. The damaged bicycle was hauled away and officers sought any witnesses or security footage.
The investigation was lengthy, but officers finally identified the driver as Breanna Smith. A warrant was issued for her arrest on December 1st and the following day she turned herself in to police. The Colorado Springs Police Department said that Smith faces charges of careless driving resulting in death as well as leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
