Grover Beach, CA (May 15, 2024) Hit-and-run accidents seem to occur more often these days. Such an accident took place in Grover Beach on Saturday, May 11th. A 31-year-old man was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle on Highway 1 at Grand Avenue, just after 11:00 p.m. The bicyclist was left with injuries, but left alone after the driver of the vehicle fled the scene, reports indicated.
Moonlight glowed over Grover Beach on Saturday night, just after 11:00 p.m., as a man rode his bicycle through the dark streets. As he rode, a vehicle approached. Officers believe the vehicle was a blue, four-door 1966 Ford Fairlane sedan. Reports indicated that the bicyclist was changing lanes as the vehicle approached, causing the vehicle to hit the bicyclist. However, after hitting the rider, the driver of the vehicle hit the gas and quickly fled the scene. The bicyclist was thrown from the bike and ended up laying on the ground, in the dark, alone with serious injuries.
Paramedics arrived within minutes and found the 31-year-old man on the ground. His bicycle was laying several feet from him, bent and destroyed in the collision. They placed the rider on a stretcher and carefully loaded him into an ambulance. He was rushed to a local hospital where he received treatment for serious injuries. He remains hospitalized but in stable condition, according to reports.
During the investigation, officers were able to determine the vehicle’s license plate number and discovered that the vehicle is registered to William Ryan Dacosse, who is now a suspect. Officers with the Grover Beach Police Department are asking anyone with information to come forward. It is illegal to leave the scene of an accident and officers are determined to bring this suspect to justice.
