Baker, CA (April 25, 2024) Tragedy struck the community of Baker on Saturday, April 20th, when a single-vehicle collision left the backseat passenger dead. 25-year-old Spring Valley resident, Dajae Johnson, was riding in the backseat when the vehicle crashed on Interstate 15 near Zzyzx Road right around 2:30 a.m. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene, reports indicated.
It was the middle of the night in Baker, California. Traffic on Interstate 15 wasn’t heavy as vehicles followed the trails set before them by headlights. One particular vehicle headed along Interstate 15 when the driver lost control near Zzyzx Road, officers reported. The vehicle rolled several times before coming to a stop, ejecting at least one of the occupants.
The California Highway Patrol hurried to the scene on Interstate 15 and said they found a woman underneath the car. They believe the woman had been ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. They then found the backseat passenger, identified as Dajae Johnson, with fatal injuries. Just before 3:00 a.m., officers pronounced Johnson dead at the scene and waited for the coroner to arrive.
Officers continue to investigate this fatal single-vehicle collision to determine what caused this rollover crash. They are not certain, at this point in the investigation, if drugs or alcohol played a role. However, they DO know that a life was tragically lost in this accident.
