Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving Pedestrian Leaves One Dead, Others Injured In Eureka

3-vehicle collision leaves two people with injuries on Road 120 in Tulare County.

Eureka, CA (May 23, 2024) A traumatic multi-vehicle collision that also involved a pedestrian took place in Eureka on Wednesday afternoon, leaving the community in shock. Sadly, it seemed that one person lost their life in this horrible accident. The accident took place just minutes before 2:00 p.m. on May 22nd, at the intersection of I Street and 7th Street, according to reports.

Officers are not certain what happened or how the events played out, but they do know that a chaotic accident unfolded that afternoon. Reporter, Mark McKenna, stated that it all started when a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of I Street and 9th Street. Following this Pedestrian accident, four vehicles collided near the intersection of I Street and 7th Street. One of the vehicles crashed into a building following the accident, officers reported.

Humboldt Bay Fire arrived at the scene within minutes and found one vehicle that had crashed into a building, another vehicle with driver’s side damage, a black SUV with major rear-end and driver’s side damage and a silver SUV with front-end driver’s side damage. Debris covered the intersection in every direction. Paramedics found one person with life-threatening injuries and began performing CPR. Sadly, the victim, believed to be the pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene. A yellow tarp was placed over the victim and officers called the coroner.

Two other people were found with serious injuries, according to reports. They were both transported to local hospitals, via ambulance, to receive further medical care. One of them, was trapped inside her vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters.

Officers had to close 7th Street and encouraged motorists to take alternate routes. They investigated the scene and gathered evidence to try and determine what caused this chaotic and deadly accident, They are also trying to determine who was at fault. Officers had to call tow trucks to remove some of the damaged vehicles from the scene, reports indicated, and crews cleaned up the glass and debris that covered the intersection.
