Shafter, CA (February 27, 2024) 74-year-old Eric Hoffman lost his life on Tuesday morning in a three-vehicle collision that left 5 other people injured, officers said. Minutes before 7:00 a.m. on February 27th, the violent crash occurred on Zerker Road in Shafter, changing lives forever.
The circumstances surrounding this accident are still unknown, but in a split second, everything changed on Zerker Road. It wasn’t far from Lerdo Highway when the three vehicles collided, officers said. Firefighters from the Kern County Fire Department arrived at the scene and found one person who was trapped inside their smashed vehicle. They had to use Jaws of Life to remove the victim from the wreckage, officials reported.
Paramedics rushed to help those who were injured. Initial reports indicated that at least 6 people were injured in this Shafter collision, including Hoffman, who was trapped. Emergency medical personnel did everything they could to save him once he was extricated from their vehicle, but sadly, Eric Hoffman were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police officers were forced to close a portion of Zerker Road following the crash. Investigators searched the scene for evidence as paramedics helped those who had been hurt in the collision. Tow trucks were also called to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway. Detectives continue to investigate this fatal collision to determine what happened and who was at fault.
