Victorville, CA (April 8, 2024) Jut before 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5th, a vehicle slammed into a bridge before bursting into flames. It happened on Interstate 15 in Victorville, claiming one person’s life and leaving two others with life-threatening injuries, according to officers.
Reports began coming in regarding a pickup truck driving erratically on Interstate 15 on Friday evening, April 5th. Then, at approximately 7:53 p.m., new calls were received about a fiery collision on the freeway. It seems the same driver who was displaying erratic behavior on the freeway earlier, had lost control and slammed into the Stoddard Wells Road overpass bridge. The pickup truck then burst into flames, according to witnesses.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies and found the pickup fully engulfed in flames. The driver, a male, had been partially ejected from the vehicle during the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene as firefighters worked to put out the fire. The CHP log indicates that the fire was completely extinguished by 8:30 p.m. Officers moved in to take a closer look and that is when they discovered the two passengers in the pickup. Both victims sustained life-threatening injuries in this horrible collision.
Paramedics called for two helicopters to come to the scene and rush the two victims to hospitals near the scene. The two victims were then taken to trauma centers to receive the best specialized treatments for their injuries.
The California Highway Patrol reported that this fatal accident is still being investigated. Officers are determined to figure out what exactly happened to cause this fiery, deadly crash.
