HAYWARD, CA (May 11, 2022) – A San Jose police officer was arrested following a two-vehicle accident on suspicion of DUI.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the DUI accident that took place around 3:43 a.m. on the southbound side of I-880 north of Tennyson Road. Officers speaking with witnesses say that the San Jose police officer was responsible for the crash and was screened for DUI.
The off-duty officer was determined to have been under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. He was cited for the offense and released later that day.
San Jose police officer Steve Aponte did confirm that an off-duty officer was arrested that day for a possible DUI, although the name of the offending officer wasn’t released due to an ongoing investigation. At the time of his statement, Aponte said that the officer in question was not placed on administrative leave.
