Antioch, CA (April 15, 2024) A fatal collision took place in an Antioch intersection on Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred at Auto Center Drive and W. 10th Street just after 4:00 p.m., according to reports. The crash left one person trapped inside their vehicle and ended with one dead and two injured.
A silver Lexus SUV was heading west on West 10th Street as it approached the intersection of Auto Center Drive. A blue Acura sedan was heading north on Auto Center Drive, also approaching the intersection. Officers said that they believe the Acura was speeding at the time of the accident. Both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time. The Acura T-Boned the Lexus, causing the vehicles to block the intersection.
Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, AMR and the Antioch Police Department arrived at the scene and found the two vehicles with major damage. A 30-year-old male was driving the Acura and was found unresponsive. Paramedics rushed to give him life-saving aid, but his injuries were too severe. With heavy hearts, they pronounced him dead at the scene and waited for the coroner to arrive.
The Lexus had two occupants, both of whom sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the collision. They were both taken to a local hospital, one via ambulance and the other by helicopter to receive treatment.
The Antioch Police Department Accident Investigators are leading the investigation. Officers investigated the scene and took witness statements. They are determined to learn what caused this fatal accident and to also determine who was at fault. Tow trucks had to remove both of the vehicles, which were badly damaged, from the scene and debris was cleaned from the roadway as well.
