Hollywood, CA (April 21,2024) A sudden tram accident at Universal Studios in Hollywood left 15 passengers injured on Saturday night, April 20th. It all happened around 9:30 p.m. and left one passenger with life-threatening injuries, officers reported. The tram is used for a studio tour through the backlot of Universal Studios, a spokesperson said.
A group of visitors at Universal Studios in Hollywood were riding the tram through the studio’s backlot on Saturday night, when a collision injured 15 passengers. The driver of the tram said there was a mechanical failure with the tram as he tried to operate it that night. One of the tram cars collided with the rail right around 9:00 p.m. The impact of hitting the rail caused the tram car to tip and several passengers fell out, according to reports.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived at the scene and found the tram with multiple injured passengers. Paramedics began evaluated the injured passengers and found fifteen people with injuries, one of whom suffered critical injuries in the accident. All 15 people were taken to local hospitals to receive treatment for various injuries, according to reports.
A spokesperson for Universal Studios said, “We are working to support our guests and understand the circumstances that led to the accident.” News stations shared video of the aftermath. In the video you can see paramedics giving aid to multiple injured passengers. One person, who sustained critical injuries, was seen on a stretcher.
