Riverside, CA (July 31, 2024) On Saturday, July 27, a fatal DUI crash occurred on the 91 Freeway in Riverside.
California Highway Patrol reported that the crash took place a little before 11 p.m. A woman who is suspected of driving under the influence was traveling in the westbound lanes when her car, a Nissan Altima, started drifting to the right. She crashed into the left rear of a BMW 528i.
The BMW had previously been involved in a crash with a Hyundai, and both vehicles and their occupants were pulled over on the right shoulder.
The collision pushed the BMW into five of those occupants who were standing on the dirt embankment. Four were critically injured and one was tragically pronounced dead at the scene: 48-year-old Eulalia Cazares Barragan of Corona. She had been an occupant of the Hyundai.
The other four pedestrians were rushed to a local hospital for treatment of their major injuries. Their current condition is unknown at this time.
The driver of the Nissan was also taken to a hospital. As of Tuesday, July 30, she was still being monitored by CHP officers around the clock until she is cleared for booking.
