Borrego Springs, CA (March 24, 2024) A chaotic and deadly collision occurred on East Highway 78 in Borrego Springs on Friday night, March 22nd. Sadly, one person lost their life and six others sustained injuries in this four-vehicle accident. It happened at Borrego Springs Road around 8:45 p.m. between three motorcycles and one vehicle, according to police logs.
First responders arrived at the scene and found three damaged motorcycles and a vehicle with damage blocking the highway. Motorcyclists were down on the ground with a multitude of different injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening. Paramedics rushed to help anyone who required medical attention. Unfortunately, they found one victim with fatal injuries. They pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Cal Fire Captain Mike Cornette told news sources that another adult sustained serious injuries in the collision and was airlifted to a local hospital. Traffic was closed in both directions to allow room for the air ambulance to land, officers reported. The remained victims sustained minor injuries, according to officers. Many were treated at the scene, and one juvenile was transported to a local hospital via ambulance.
Investigators are still not quite sure what exactly happened on State Route 78 on Friday night. They gathered evidence at the scene and are determined to figure out what caused this awful accident and who was at fault.
