DUI Hit-And-Run Collision Claims Motorcyclist’s Life In Las Vegas

Motorcyclist injured in North Hollywood hit-and-run on SR-134.

Las Vegas, NV (February 19, 2024) Disbelief flooded the community of north Las Vegas on Friday when a driver hit a motorcyclist and then tried to run from the scene. The motorcyclist was rushed to a hospital, where she eventually died, according to authorities. The hit-and-run driver was suspected of DUI and arrested following the collision at the intersection of Vandenberg Drive and Craig Road.

A female motorcyclist, said to be in her 40s, was traveling east along Craig Road in north Las Vegas on Friday morning. Right around 8:45 a.m., a Dodge Challenger, heading west on Craig, didn’t yield for the motorcyclist as it turned left. The Dodge turned right in front of the Harley Davidson motorcycle, leaving no time for the motorcyclist to react. The motorcycle crashed into the Dodge, throwing the female rider and destroying her Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Emergency personnel rushed to the scene and found the woman with life-threatening injuries, lying on the road. Paramedics performed life-saving measures and quickly took the motorcyclist to a local hospital to receive treatment. She held on for two days as the medical staff did everything they could, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the hospital on February 18th.

The Dodge pickup remained at the scene, but the driver had fled on foot, officers reported. Police officers at the scene were able to catch up to the driver of the Dodge, identified as 31-year-old Robert McKinnley II. Once he was apprehended, officers said he was obviously intoxicated and was placed under arrest. He was booked into the Community Correctional Center in North Las Vegas and faces several charges, including hit-and-run charges and DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm and/or death.

The Clark County Coroner’s Officer will notify the next of kin before releasing the victim’s identity to the public, authorities said.
