Santa Barbara, CA (February 26, 2024) An early morning scooter ride ended in tragedy on Saturday, authorities said. 32-year-old Dane Angus was killed near the intersection of Cota Street and Santa Barbara Street in downtown Santa Barbara when he was truck by a pickup. The accident fatally injured the rider, but the driver didn’t stay to help. Instead, they fled the scene of the accident, leaving the scooter rider lying in the middle of the road.
It was 2:00 a.m. in Santa Barbara as Angus rode a scooter through downtown. A pickup truck was also driving through downtown when they struck the scooter. Officers said the scooter became wedged under the front of the pickup, but the driver continued down the street.
