Long Beach, CA (May 5, 2024) The community of Long Beach was met with tragedy on Saturday morning, May 4th, when a scooter rider lost his life. The victim was riding an electric scooter near the intersection of Shaw Street and Ximeno Avenue just before 6:30 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle, reports indicated. Sadly, the man later died from his injuries at the hospital.
It was early on Saturday morning, April 4th, as a man rode an electric scooter through Long Beach. He approached the intersection of Shaw Street and Ximeno Avenue and was struck by a vehicle heading south on Ximeno. Officers said that, at this time, they think the victim failed to stop at a stop sign. The impact from the collision threw the man from the scooter, causing him to finally land in the middle of the roadway.
Officers with the Long Beach Police Department arrived at the scene and found the man lying on the ground, with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics at the scene evaluated him and found that he was suffering from serious injuries to his upper body. They carefully placed him in a stretcher and loaded him into an ambulance where he was rushed to a local hospital. The medical staff did everything they could, but the man’s injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the vehicle, identified only as a female, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Officers do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in this fatal scooter crash.
