Orange County, CA (April 2, 2024) Driving down a road and suddenly having your vehicle present problems, is far from ideal, but being hit by another vehicle as you try to fix your disabled car on the side of the road, is unimaginable. This happened to a motorist on the 91 Freeway in Orange County on Monday, April 1st, just after midnight.
The driver’s vehicle was experiencing some issues so they pulled onto the westbound shoulder of the freeway. They got out of the vehicle, opened the hood and began searching for the problem, hoping it was something they could fix. As they worked on fixing their vehicle, another vehicle approached them on the freeway. For reasons still unknown, the driver lost control and swerved towards the shoulder, hitting the motorist.
The motorist was knocked onto the freeway from the force of the collision. They laid on the roadway between the 241 Freeway and Green River Drive with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle that hit them stopped and waited for police officers to arrive.
When emergency crews arrived, they found the motorist lying on the freeway, motionless. Their vehicle sat on the side of the road with the hood open, a yellow container of oil laid on the ground with its contents spilled onto the shoulder. The driver’s side of the vehicle had also been hit during the collision. The door was nearly torn completely fro the vehicle and a large piece of metal debris laid on the ground beside it.
Paramedics ran to the victim and began life-saving measures, but their efforts weren’t enough for the massive injuries the person had sustained. Sadly, they were pronounced dead at the scene by officials.
Detectives gathered evidence and spoke with the driver of the vehicle responsible for this collision. They are determined to learn what caused the driver to lose control and hit the vehicle on the shoulder, as well as its driver.
