Cinthya Guerrero Killed By Semi-Trailer In Parmer County

Dale Pumphrey killed on the shoulder of SR-125 in Spring Valley

Parmer County, TX (December 13, 2023) A semi-trailer failed to yield while turning and ended up taking 30-year-old Cinthya Guerrero’s life on Monday, December 11th. The tragic accident occurred on US Highway 60 just before 7:00 a.m., according to officials.

Initial reports indicate that a truck tractor was pulling a semi-trailer on County Road 17 in Parmer County, heading north. It stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of CR 17 and US Highway 60, near Friona. At the same time, Cinthya Guerrero was driving west on US Highway 60 in a 2015 Chevy Cruze. She was traveling in the inside lane of the highway, according to authorities, and had the right-of-way.

Officers said that the truck tractor continued crossing US 60 after stopping and entered the center median to head west on US 60. However, following an investigation, it seems that the truck didn’t yield to the Cruze, driven by Guerrero. Instead, the truck entered the west lane right in front of Guerrero’s car. She had no time to stop or change lanes to avoid the truck and the two collided.

Paramedics and police officers arrived at the scene only to find that Guerrero had been killed in the crash. She was, sadly, pronounced dead at the scene by officials.

A two truck was called to come and remove her vehicle from the highway and crews had to clean debris from the scene. There is no news as to whether or not the driver of the truck tractor was injured in this crash.

Officers are still investigating this accident to try and figure out exactly why it happened.

Liability In Parmer County Car Accidents

Despite improved safety measures for cars, motor vehicle accidents remain one of the leading causes of serious injury and death in the United States.  According to the CDC, “more than 32,000 people are killed and 2 million are injured each year from motor vehicle crashes.” There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to a car accident including:

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Dangerous turns
  • Poorly designed roadways

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid causing accidents. This is especially true for commercial drivers that work for a city. A number of collisions are due to drivers that make dangerous left turns. If a negligent driver worked for a city, that city could potentially be liable in the event of an accident. Generally speaking, employers are vicariously liable for the negligent actions of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. There are a number of steps that should be taken after a car accident.

  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • A thorough independent investigation should be conducted.

The family of any victim that has died in a car accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and funeral expenses. It is essential that evidence is properly preserved after a car accident. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
